Lost and found

i bought this book a while ago and sat on my bookshelf, somehow i sort of forgot about it and what the subject was actually i even forgot i had it until one day i just picked it up and started reading it.

Bought it whilst i was still living in Oz. Read it last week, after residing in Portugal for over 1 year... and i am so glad i waited.

It made me miss australia, all the familiar names and tv shows and journalists and lingo...

The book is fabulous, recomend it no worries but i wont bore you with details, they are available just up in the editors area.

Just buy it and read it!

An absolute must read for the X generation

I loved this book so much I decided to write my Master's Thesis in Literature on it; we've all got parents, friends, or someone we know that turn up in every one of these stories. Munro's insights into how humans deal with relationships, death, and collective community social consciousness are continually profound and eye-opening. Pay special attention to things "Gothic" in this collection as in Open Secrets: repressed sexuality, pleasurable dread, anxiety, remorse, unnatural silences....the list goes on and on. No-one better captures the paradox of connected everyday surfaces and hidden, underground nightmares than Munro.

Powerful, understated characters leave one thinking

Reading stories such as "Differently," about a woman's reminiscences and regret about the people of her past made me reflect that life turns out differently than our original aspirations. It isn't always regret, but it is rarely indifferent. As soon as I finished a story, I immediately wanted to reread it, and understand the character better. These are beautiful, gentle stories about lives that sometimes meander, sometimes change abruptly, but that are always determined by the choices and accidents of living. Munro's love, sometimes curiosity, for her characters is a privilege to experience.

This book is not all inclusive but it is a good quick review. The topics that it does cover are in bulletpoint format which is great for right before the test. I used this 2 weeks before the April 2011 test and was happy with my results.
The best study material is still doing mock orals with your friends!

His Last Bow

These are the next to last of the series of short stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle about Sherlock Holmes. Some are set before the Great War, the last takes place in 1914. Holmes is retired and refused to take on any more cases, preferring to live out his years in a small rural village. [Where strangers stand out.]

* The Adventure of Wisteria Lodge. Mr. Scott Eccles visits Holmes about his "grotesque experience". The police question Eccles about a murder! Eccles tells Holmes about this experience. Holmes goes to investigate. There is a link to another mansion, then a break in the case. Inspector Baynes explains his method. The governess explains the hidden mystery. Later they learn of two deaths in Madrid. Justice was served.
* The Adventure of the Cardboard Box. Miss Cushing received a package in the mail: two human ears! Lestrade calls Holmes to investigate this crime. Holmes later sends a note to Lestrade and a man is arrested. There is a confession. Jealousy and anger caused three deaths.
* The Adventure of the Red Circle. Mrs. Warren visits Holmes to tell about a lodger who stays in his rooms in seclusion. Holmes deduces a reason for these actions. Holmes sees a signal, meets Gregson, and they enter a room to find a body. A woman explains the mystery behind the conspiracy.
* The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans. Holmes received a telegram from his brother Mycroft about a matter of state security. A clerk was found dead, he had technical papers on a secret weapon. Holmes investigates, then devises a plan to trap the guilty party. It works, and a letter is mailed to catch his accomplice and the rest of the secret papers.

* The Adventure of the Dying Detective. The now married Watson is called to attend to a very sick Holmes. Holmes has caught a strange disease known in Sumatra, and asks Watson to call upon a man who is an expert. This man visits Holmes. Alone, he boasts about what he did. Inspector Morton arrives to make the arrest. Another disguised murder solved.
* The Disappearance of Lady Frances Carfax. Holmes asks Watson to visit Lausanne and inquire about Lady Carfax; she has suddenly disappeared. A rough Englishman is also looking for her. They trace Carfax to a couple who returned to London. They are preparing for a funeral. Holmes inspects the coffin and finds a very old lady! The next morning Holmes returned to discover the truth and rescue Carfax.
* The Adventure of the Devil's Foot. Holmes had to take a vacation due to constant hard work so they went to Cornwall. He learns of a family tragedy where the sister died and her two brothers went mad overnight! The next day the remaining brother died of the same symptoms at his home! Holmes investigated this fresh scene. Later he talked to a relative of the family who told of the hidden facts behind the deaths. The mystery is solved informally.
* His Last Bow. Von Bork is a German secret agent who knows how to blend in with English society. Tonight his spy Altamont will bring the entire secret British signals code - for a price. Can anything go wrong? Holmes was asked by the Prime Minister to learn why things were going wrong and took this last job. Holmes foiled the work of this enemy agent and captured him as a prisoner. But the east wind will be cold and bitter soon. Holmes must hurry to cash a check. [Usually payments to spies are made in untraceable cash.]

The material is very well organized and presented in such a way that makes its learning easier. The book is full of pictures and diagrams. Many questions throughout each chapters enable the reader to apply the learned content to practical cases and to verify his degree of comprehension.

it is an excellent book, every practitioner must have a copy in any version, the printed or electronic. I have both
Dr. Atef Gabrael, a medical graduate since 1965. Yes I have been a medical doctor since 1965 and I am still reading physiology. I think every doctor should be up to date, in the basics, physiology and anatomy.

Lessons are accessible and easy to conceptualize, great for undergrads, not detailed enough for graduate/professional students.

I used this book in undergrad and Dr. Widmaier was my professor; I'm now in med school and have had Dr. Raff as my professor, and these guys know their physiology. This book helped form the foundations of many fundamental physiological concepts. Great pictures, great diagrams, and easy to read.

The one thing I would say is that this is not a medical school level text. There are some concepts which it passes over, or does not describe; this book is for an undergraduate level understanding, I would say. Although Dr. Widmaier taught using his text to an audience of undergrads, Dr. Raff did not use the same text for an audience of medical students.

This book is a straightforward and accessible approach for people who really need to start with square one as far as physiology goes. In that regard, it is excellent.

This one was HOT if you're looking for reluctant, gay erotica. It's not a forced seduction, it's a sloooow seduction, with plenty of sexual tension and emotional conflict on the part of Alleyne. Thorbrand is a hottie alpha male with a surprisingly gentle touch, one that the young monk has a harder and harder time resisting. I had no idea what to expect when I picked this book up - I normally read the straight erotica reluctant sex Viking novels when I read a Viking novel - but this was arguably the best Viking novel I've picked up to date. It's just romantic enough to be emotionally satisfying, but it doesn't get sappy, and the actual erotica is so deliciously hot... as a woman who occasionally enjoys a gay male sex story, this ranks among my favorites.

Okay, don't expect too much. The book is basically as the blurb describes it. A little angst, a lot of yummy viking and sex, make that hot sex.

What the ' Vikings' TV series is missing!

Okay, so I'm not caught up on the latest episodes of 'Vikings', but so far Athelstan keeps refusing to join his sexy Viking captors in bed.
This story satisfies that craving with hot gay Viking-on-thrall action, and doesn't stint on the detail either. A hot and satisfying read.
