Very interesting

Since I was reading Beyond Good and Evil on my own, I ordered both Lampert's commentary and Douglas Burnham's Reading Nietzsche: An Analysis of Beyond Good and Evil They are both very well written. From Lampert I learned the importance of Darwinian theories for Nietzsche (which led me to Richardson's book Nietzsche's New Darwinism ). I found Burnham's notes on Nietzsche's eugenics in the text very helpful (although this is not a very palatable part of Nietzsche's thought), and that this aspect is not really dealt with clearly by Lampert. Both commentaries are great, but if I had to buy just one, maybe I would choose Burnham's.

Professor Lampert's book about Beyond Good and Evil (BGE) is a great starting point for supplementing Nietzsche's text. It's an affirmative philosophy for those of us that believe we are a part of this world and not pinning our hopes on a 'transcendental' heaven after we endure our time on earth as a 'sinful' creature. Amor Fati!

The books are long and filled with lots of pictures from the movies. They are broken into chapters so you can read one or two before bedtime. You pretty much need to love the movies before reading the books. The stories in the books are only highlights of the movies but still do a good job of capturing the interesting moments.

My 2-yr old loves it!

My 2 yr old has become obsessed with Miyazaki's films, so this story book allows her to continue this love as a bedtime story too. It also gives me a good visual reference to redraw her favourite scenes on request. This edition follows the movie faithfully and is packed with large still pictures from the movie itself. Kiki is a delightful character and her story will thrill kids of all ages (including thirtysomething yr-old animation fans).

A fun picture retelling of the film with a "manga" feel. We have a copy of the same thing in the Japanese (purchased at the Ghibli Museum), so it was fun to get a version that our young readers could read on their own. A fairly easy read for middle readers. A nice, concise retelling without cumbersome details. The manga-like character introduction at the beginning was a fun touch.

Rushed to the market without proper review. Excellent chapters on EIGRP/OSPF/IS-IS do not make up for all the other missing cont

I have very mixed feelings about this book.

The rewrite on EIGRP, OSPF, and the new chapter on IS-IS are all excellent(!), but the rest of the book is close to useless!

It has clearly been rushed to the market without thorough review, including lots and lots of typos, wrong examples, errors in drawings/diagrams, and there's even a duplicate section on DMVPN in both chapter 9 and 10 of Volume 2!

I have found extensive errata online for volume 1, but only a single fix for volume 2 (as of today), and there are a zillion errors in volume 2 as well.

Some of the subjects, which are no longer on the curriculum, such as Zone Based Firewalls and WCCP, are still in the book.

Other subjects are clearly missing, even if they are presented in the blueprint in the Introduction with references to a particular volume and chapter.
Examples are PIM snooping, (embedded) packet capture, fast reroute, LFA, 6RD, 6PE, and 6VPE.
Clearly the person who did the list didn't have a clue about the actual contents of the book.

Considering the fact, that IPv6 is now an integral part of the CCIE Routing and Switching exam, both written and lab, it's also surprising, that the excellent chapter 20 on IPv6 basics (addressing etc.) in version 4 of the book, has been removed completely, without that data showing up elsewhere. Especially if you consider that a whole chapter is still wasted on IPv4 subnetting, which any CCIE candidate should be completely familiar with.

I wish I had just read version 4 of the book and covered the gaps with the Cisco Live online library.

Good at everything except for BGP.

Very good and very detail explanation of Layer 3 routing protocols ( OSPF, EIGRP, PIM) excellent on Layer 2, L2 and L3 Multicast, MPLS, Redist, and QOS. BUT... BGP is not done well at all, I was hoping to get some of the great details like the OSPF chapter in but it jumps deep into the protocol VOID of all the basics.

I noticed that the books focus mainly in the blueprint from the CCIE R&S. By reading this book you will not become a CCIE or even get close to be able to pass the test. this book is meant to be a guide to CCIE candidates.

Update Post:

After reading the books cover to cover; I have found some great topics and some very weak and almost pointless chapters. The book VOL 1 starts with some very basic topics about IP addressing and frankly that was a waste of time as for CCIE you must know those topics by heart. it also flights through some topics by just giving definitions and letting you completely lost of what the technology do and why the topic was addressed there.

The books VOL1 has a very nice explanations of IGP (EIGRP, OSPF and falls short in IS-IS). IS-IS is so important that was removed in the pass version and brought back to this exam.

The book VOL2 falls short on BGP ( the books points mostly to theory than to configuration) but the second books that's a great job explaining Multicast. it is nicely and easily explained through the chapters (again theory wise) for configuration and troubleshooting you have to go with Doyle and the TCP IP Volumen II. The second books falls short on the rest of the chapters for most of its topics. I gives you a nice intro to MPLS; but it is very superficial.

Security is also touched but mostly for the basic things as you will on the CCNA. Tunneling technologies were mostly conceptual. it gives you a good idea of shapping and QOS but does not deep into any of the topics.

over all the books is good; but as mentioned in other post. you got to guess sometimes what the writer wanted to say as the typos are horrible all through the book. notice that some graphics are also incomplete. the book references the graphics and when you go back to the graphic there is not information about what the book says. some routers were label twice so the book mentions router 5 but there are two routers 4. you have to try and figure out which one is 5.

please do read this books after you finish reading the Routing TCP/IP VOL 1 and 2. because of how technical those books are; I found it great to have slowly explained to me some of the concepts on the those books by the CCIE V5 Library.
