About the Author
Geoffrey M. Cooper is Professor and Chair of the Department of Biology at Boston University. Receiving a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Miami in 1973, he pursued postdoctoral work with Howard Temin at the University of Wisconsin, where he developed gene transfer assays to characterize the proviral DNAs of Rous sarcoma virus and related retroviruses. He then joined the faculty of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in 1975, extending these studies to the identification of oncogenes in human tumors. Since moving to Boston University in 1998, Dr. Cooper has used The Cell in teaching undergraduate cell biology, as well as continuing his research and participating in a major expansion of the life sciences there. Dr. Cooper s research is focused on understanding the roles of oncogene proteins in the signaling pathways that regulate cell proliferation and programmed cell death. He has authored two textbooks on cancer and published over 100 research papers in the field of cell signaling and cancer research. Robert E. Hausman is Professor and Graduate Director of the Department of Biology at Boston University. Receiving a Ph.D. in Biological Science from Northwestern University in 1971, he pursued postdoctoral work with Aron Moscona at the University of Chicago, where he investigated cell cell interactions during early embryonic development and characterized one of the original cell adhesion molecules. He joined the faculty of Boston University in 1978, extending his investigations of cell surface interactions to muscle development and regulation of gene expression in the developing nervous system by cell-to-cell contact. Dr. Hausman has taught undergraduate cell biology and several graduate development courses at Boston University, and Professors Cooper and Hausman currently teach cell biology together. His research is focused on understanding how interactions between cells and between cells and the extracellular matrix affect differentiation and morphogenesis.

Great Book, written by a great guy!

The class I took with this book was written by the author, Dr. Geoffrey Cooper himself. Before I say anything else about the book, Dr. Cooper is a super smart guy. He discovered the ras oncogene, which you'll learn about in this book! (He is also a notable humble guy, as he doesn't even mention himself in the book, while he gives you tons of stuff on other scientists who discovered great things in cell biology, and even got Nobel prizes).

This book is a great book for an undergraduate class in cell biology. The diagrams are all well-drawn, and the book explains some complex concepts/cascades quite well. Studying the diagrams and illustrations is very very helpful when studying.

Additionally, the text is pretty comfortable to read. The text isn't crammed in together, and everything is organized pretty well (you usually don't have to turn the page to see a diagram the text refers to).

I kept this book after the class, as it is a great reference, and easy to understand. It's well-written, concise, and interesting.

Be thankful if your class uses this book. You'll not only learn about cell biology, but a lot about science in general.

Hafner-Burton tells the story of the politics of such agreements and of the ways in which governments pursue market integration policies that advance their own political interests, including human rights.

How and why do global norms for social justice become international regulations linked to seemingly unrelated issues, such as trade? Hafner-Burton finds that the process has been unconventional. Efforts by human rights advocates and labor unions to spread human rights ideals, for example, do not explain why American and European governments employ preferential trade agreements to protect human rights. Instead, most of the regulations protecting human rights are codified in global moral principles and laws only because they serve policymakers' interests in accumulating power or resources or solving other problems. Otherwise, demands by moral advocates are tossed aside. And, as Hafner-Burton shows, even the inclusion of human rights protections in trade agreements is no guarantee of real change, because many of the governments that sign on to fair trade regulations oppose such protections and do not intend to force their implementation.

Ultimately, Hafner-Burton finds that, despite the difficulty of enforcing good regulations and the less-than-noble motives for including them, trade agreements that include human rights provisions have made a positive difference in the lives of some of the people they are intended-on paper, at least-to protect.

I received a copy of this book from Hurricane Readers Review group in exchange for an honest review.
I love this series and The Future was a great installment. Ellie's relationship with the rest of the team is getting stronger while she still struggles to try and do it all by herself. An enjoyable addition to the series

I finally got my grabby hands on this, the third instalment in a 5 book series - and read it in one sitting.

The reader is thrown headlong into the action again, but this time, with a much more somber feel. Ellie is still struggling and that is apparent both in the tempo and the narrative style of this tale.

The author is carefully doling out hints of information and mixing that up with misdirection. No more answers to be found here, just many more questions.

An enjoyable addition to the series.

Must read!

Another great book in the series, ending with a cliffhanger (ARGHHHH).
Elle's relationships with the rest of Equilibrium gets stronger, her life gets more complicated and there are more questions raised, than answered. She becomes more aligned with her role, accepting and struggling at the same time to prove herself to the other members. I thought, that there will be more time spent with Sandra and her gift thou.
All in all it kept me on edge and it adds to the other books as amazing follow up story! Can't wait for the others!

Joel Whitburn, HIT RECORDS 1954-1982. The book covers the Music Vendor/Record World pop singles charts from 10/4/54 - 4/10/82

Size of the book is based on stock white 8 1/2" x 11" paper, plus a hard laminated cover.

This makes a great adjunct to the other Whitburn books, especially the 1955+ pop singles' series. On average in this volume, I'd put about four not-Billboard hits listed per page--artists who had hit records on these charts that didn't appear on Billboard's. Each of them is marked with a star, and if you're looking for some artists' discography help, especially in the 1954-1960 period who were being displaced by rock 'n roll, you'll find a fairly large (10%+?) number of releases that don't show up on the Billboard listings. Artists who stand out having "extra" hits not previously listed in the Billboard books are Tony Bennett, Jaye P. Morgan, Dorothy Collins, Jo Stafford, Ames Brothers, Georgia Gibbs, Jane Morgan, McGuire Sisters, Fontane Sisters, oodles of not-Billboard hits show on these artists. Additionally, some of the fading pops artists have substantially different peaks and chart longevity versus both the Cash Box and Billboard listings, such as Gale Storm, who lists (page 285) "I Hear You Knocking" at a 20 week run, while the other listings only show between 1 - 3 weeks and substantially lower peaks than her Billboard pops indicate.

Recommended if you already have the Whitburn 1955+ pop singles' book, and if you're interested in the spread among Billboard's radio airplay bias, Cash Box sales bias, and Music Vendor/Record World jukebox bias in their chart reporting. I also recommend the companion book detailing the 101-150 listings as a supplement to any "Bubbling Under..." interests you have.

An ex-SHE-ellent debut issue! Faithful to the spirit of the television show, but with its own comic book feel, and expanding on the SheZow mythos. 36 pages, ALL story with no ads. That's a Perry big issue. Written AND drawn by Niels Erickson. I can't think of any other comic book with a one-man art/script department, can you? Obie Scott Wade, the creator of SheZow, is editor-in-chief so the book was assured from the beginning to be something the fans would love.

Felt just like the TV Show!

I loved watching SheZow when it aired on TV; this comic feels just like watching one of Guy's/SheZow's 11 minute adventures on the tube! The characters look just like the folks in the series, it has the She-larious humor I came to expect from the cartoon & Sheila's there, too! Hoping that there are further issues coming soon! Well done!

As a fan of SheZow, I can say this falls in line with what you'd find in any episode of SheZow. Puns galore, she-mazing action, and a brand new sidekick each time. I will say the comic though is slightly more cheeky than in the show, perhaps the freedom of the medium? I can't complain, I love every page of it, especially Sheila!

Another great read by Steve Burns. I have read all of his books and he almost always talks about and simply shows you how to create an "edge" in your trading. Steve has a great gift for making very complex concepts very easy to understand. In my humble opinion, his books should be core curriculum for all high school students.
