About the Author
Peggy Porschen grew up in Germany, a country renowned for its cakes. She moved to London in 1998 graduating top of her class at the prestigious Cordon Bleu school. From there, she went on to work as a pattissiere at the Lanesborough Hotel and with master baker Gerhart Jenne at Konditor and Cook on London's South Bank. Her work is much in demand and she has recently started supplying cakes to Fortnum and Mason. Her designs have also featured in magazines and newspapers such as OK, the Daily Mail and Brides magazine.

Cake recipe questionable (bake at 400 degrees ????)but decorating ideas are good.

This book has some really pretty cakes and cookies. After reading through the book I decided to bake a cake using her recipe (I usually stick to Zoe Clarkes recipe).
Anyway the temperature instructs you to bake the cake at 400 degrees! Of course, my cake was a disaster, it burned at the top and was uncooked. I cannot understand why you would bake a cake at this high a temperature. Waste of ingredients and time. However, her decorating ideas are good.

I gave it away after it arrived. Beautiful cover, but not what I wanted. Perfectly finished baked desserts I guess are not my thing. I realize now I love rustic desserts.

Love this book

I've used this book over and over again. The cake flavors are delicious... The lemon is always a big hit. The steps are broken down clearly and there are a lot of really cute ideas in this book. I've made some of the cakes the way they are shown and also just used some of the different techniques from different recipes to design my own.

A nice introduction to computer architecture

This book serves as a nice introduction to computer architecture, though those wishing to learn assembly language that they can actually apply in real-world applications will be disappointed, as the assembly language that's taught applies only to the virtual computer that is used with the book. The virtual computer, called the Pep/6, aids the student in learning about different addressing modes, language translation, etc. The book covers many other topics including boolean logic, language translation principles, different base numbering systems, etc. The book moves at a comfortable pace, and, coupled with good teaching, can potentially teach the student a good deal.

could be a good book, but...

This book is pretty good, but can be quite frustating if you try to study it in on your own. When reading books, sometimes authors would refer to certain tables or columns to better explain the context of the subject discussed. In this book, however, the author doesnt give any hint or idea of where to look when using certain reference.

So lets say you are still in the middle of absorbing certain texts, ,suddenly the author mentions certain things that seem to be out of context, and you have no idea that the author is actually refering to certain table or figure(eg. figure 4.5 or etc.). The author doesnt mention anything, its just there out of the blue. The table or figure mentioned, could be in the next page or ..somewhere at beginning of the chapter.

You are left to find it out yourself.In other words, the author doesnt tell you which figure he is talking about, he just say in this table, or figure etc... etc...and the worse thing is that its not always on the same page....could be really far at beginning or next few pages..lol

I regularly teach CS1 and CS2, (as well as CSX)in the NYS SUNY system. We have a course between CS1 and CS2 (CS1.5?) This is a breadth course which also has a required programming component. I like the Warford text, as it provides a pretty good introduction to topics across the spectrum. I am not in love with the order, since I cover logic after data representation and the text has it at the end. Also, as with another review I saw, this text unfortunately does not use a real live assembly language. Since learning a pretend one is just as hard as learning a real one, I usually substitute a module on the intel-chip assembly language in place of the text coverage. All that said, this is the best book I could find. Most breadth- coverage texts are at level CS0, this one definitely is not.

good-humored recounting of Paul Revere's life

"And Then What Happened, Paul Revere?" is an unconventional and good-humored recounting of Paul Revere's life. The little known details about his life and "adventures" add fun and interest to otherwise dry account of historical events. Did you know that Paul Revere whittled false teeth out of hippopotamus tusk to make extra money, had sixteen children, or that he forgot spurs on his famous ride? As the book repeats throughout its pages : "Sometimes on his missions things went just right. ...Sometimes things went poorly."

The vocabulary and writing style is very age appropriate - light conversational style with complex and simple sentences plus a touch of subtle humor. The repetitive pattern makes reading easier and more memorizing for younger readers. After each account Jean Fritz writes: "And then what happened?"

Margot Tomes' illustrations are detailed, informative, and often funny. With this book reader will get not only an entertaining read but some historical knowledge about Revolutionary America as well.

The story of Paul Revere is simply written by Fritz. Aftereach account she writes, "And then what happened? This patternthroughout the book makes the book easy to read, as you always know what the next section will be about. The information provided about Paul Revere is authentic. Young readers would find the information appealing. Not only does Fritz give authentic accounts of Revere's ride through Boston, Concord and Lexington, but she adds specific details to each. For example, she tells of how Revere and Adams had to return to a tavern in Lexington to get a trunk of important papers Adams had left, and how they walked right through the American lines in the process. While the actual text is informative yet light-hearted and easy to read, the illustrations provide essential support. This adds to the simplicity of the book. Included at the end of the story is an author's note on historical facts contained within the story that were not completely developed in the text. Fritz in her notes adds to the events so that the reader gets a true account of history. Overall, this book is an appealing, authentic, and easy to read account of Paul Revere's life, perfect for the middle school child!

Not sure

I am not sure if this series is worth the effort to continue reading. Even though it was well written and the story line was going well; I felt like I was not getting enough information in what was written. In a way I felt like I was being cheated by what was not written.
If a person wished to finish the series and did not have Kindle Unlimited, the person would have to spend about $2.00 dollars for maybe 20 pages. So not worth the money then!

I enjoyed the book as far as it went, but had not realized it was so short. It felt as though the book had ended before it got to the end, if that makes any sense.

I understand there are sequels, available for additional payments, but I was disappointed that this one was so short and ended so abruptly.

When I started reading it and realized it was just a "teaser" and looked into what is what going to take to complete the story and realized I was going to have to buy it in "bits and pieces," I didn't even bother getting into it any further. I guess it's different for me when you are actually reading whole books as parts of a series but when you are reading a few chapters at a time and then waiting for more, it's really not worth the effort. Sorry...maybe when this whole "book=series" is written I'll revisit it and change my review at that time.

About the Author
David Long is a Partner in Oxford Petroleum Research Associates (Opra) and specialises in the operation and development of oil and gas markets. He is a regular contributor to newsletters published by Petroleum Argus Ltd, and research reports published by the Centre for Global Energy Studies (CGES) in London. His interests include the development and application of new trading techniques in the oil and gas industries and he has been involved in the preparation of training material on swaps and options and development of computer software for analysing oil price behaviour. David began his career with BP in 1977, where he worked in Corporate Planning and Supply Departments. He spent two years on secondment at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, studying the development of forward paper markets in oil, before joining the institute as a Research Fellow from 1986 to 1989.
